In this post, I will demonstrate how to use the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ translation of the Holy Bible, known as the New World Translation (NWT), to prove that Jesus Christ is Jehovah God in the flesh, even though he is not the Father or the Holy Spirit. The NWT can be read online here.
The Lord Jesus taught that a person cannot serve two masters because they will not be able to love both equally:
“No one can slave for two masters (kyriois); for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick to the one and despise the other. You cannot slave for God and for Riches.” Matthew 6:24
Kyriois is the plural of kyrios, the Greek word for “Lord.” This is the term the New Testament uses instead of God’s covenant name Yahweh/Jehovah (cf. Mark 1:3; 12:29-30).
Furthermore, the Old Testament teaches that Jehovah is the only Lord a believer has in heaven and the only heavenly Being they are to serve and trust in:
“Whom do I have in the heavens? And besides you I desire nothing on earth.” Psalm 73:25
“To you I raise my eyes, You who are enthroned in the heavens. As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, and the eyes of a servant girl to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to Jehovah our God until he shows us favor.” Psalm 123:1-2
The Hebrew Scriptures also declare that Jehovah sits on His throne in heaven above all creation.
“The One enthroned in the heavens will laugh; Jehovah will scoff at them.” Psalm 2:4
“Jehovah is in his holy temple. Jehovah’s throne is in the heavens. His own eyes see, his watchful eyes examine the sons of men.” Psalm 11:4
“Jehovah has firmly established his throne in the heavens; and his kingship rules over everything.” Psalm 103:19
“This is what Jehovah says: ‘The heavens are my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where, then, is the house that you could build for me, and where is my resting-place?’” Isaiah 66:1
“For this is what the High and Lofty One says, Who lives forever and whose name is holy: ‘I reside in the high and holy place, but also with those crushed and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of those being crushed.’” Isaiah 57:15
The heavens are the only place where Jehovah does not permit anyone to reign or share his rule.
“Who is like Jehovah our God, the one who dwells* on high?” Psalm 113:5
* Or “sits enthroned.”
“As for the heavens, they belong to Jehovah, but the earth he has given to the sons of men.” Psalm 115:16
And according to the Christian Greek Scriptures, angels are spiritual beings created to serve God and those who will receive salvation:
“Also, he says about the angels: ‘He makes his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.’… Are they not all spirits for holy service, sent out to minister for those who are going to inherit salvation?” Hebrews 1:7, 14
“At that I fell down before his feet to worship him. But he tells me: ‘Be careful! Do not do that! I am only a fellow slave of you and of your brothers who have the work of witnessing concerning Jesus. Worship God! For the witness concerning Jesus is what inspires prophecy.’” Revelation 19:10
“Well I, John, was the one hearing and seeing these things. When I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing me these things. But he tells me: ‘Be careful! Do not do that! I am only a fellow slave of you and of your brothers the prophets and of those observing the words of this scroll. Worship God.’” Revelation 22:8-9
Therefore, Jehovah is the only Lord that a person must serve or be a slave for, and he is the only Lord in heaven who rules over everything.
With that in mind, we are ready to go ahead with the second part of our discussion.
